The Rood Screen at Venice's "Frari" Church: Detail, the Patriarch Jacob

1475
Marble

Like the other panels, this one uses a banderole to identify the figure rather than an attribute. The ꝒP in the banderole is an abbreviation for "Propheta." Calling Jacob a prophet is something of a stretch, but he he did announce prophecies to his sons as he lay dying, including one that was taken to be a foretelling of the Christ: "The sceptre shall not be taken away from Juda, nor a ruler from his thigh, till he come that is to be sent, and he shall be the expectation of nations" (Genesis 49:10).1
